Mahjong in Chicago — FAQ
I play Hong Kong Mahjong, not American — where can I play in Chicago, and what should I know before showing up?
For Hong Kong Mahjong in Chicago, head to Chinatown — community organizations and the Chinese American Service League run HK-style games, and it is where a visiting Hong Kong player will feel most at home (American Mahjong dominates the North Shore club scene instead). Before you go: Chinatown games are usually cash and small-stakes and move fast, so watch a round before sitting in, bring your own small bills, and ask to join rather than assuming a seat — most groups welcome a visitor who already knows the game. Check the current Chicago games listed below and confirm the style before you show up.
