Mahjong in New York — FAQ
I want a Hong Kong Mahjong game in New York, not American — where do locals play and what is the etiquette?
In New York, Hong Kong Mahjong is easiest to find in Manhattan Chinatown and in Flushing, Queens, where community associations and neighborhood parlors run games — that is where locals play HK-style, while American Mahjong clusters in Upper East Side clubs and the suburbs. Etiquette: Chinatown and Flushing games are usually cash, small-stakes, and quick, so arrive a little early, watch a hand first, bring your own small bills, and ask to join rather than taking a seat. See the current New York games listed below and confirm the style before you go.
